What is gratuitous ARP?
A gratuitous ARP is an ARP broadcast-type of packet that is used to makre sure that no other device on the network has the same IP address as the sending device. You should only see gratuitous ARP requests going out; if you see a gratuitous ARP reply, that means another computer on the network has the same your IP address.
